Clean-up on World Environment Day

Every day here at the ZBT, we work on clean solutions for a sustainable energy system in the fields of hydrogen fuel cells and electrolysis.

But that’s not enough for us!

Today, on World Environment Day, we want to raise awareness of environmental protection in our immediate surroundings with a Clean-up Day. Today, we are ensuring cleanliness around the institute. It’s only a small piece of our planet, but every little step counts and together we can make a real difference.

In around 1.5 hours, we collected a total of 100.2 kg of rubbish from roadsides, grass verges, car parks, woodland and bus stops around the ZBT. The heaviest bag of rubbish was rewarded with a voucher from RheinEis, the ice cream factory here on the Duisburg campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Our sustainability working group is also reminding us today of a few simple ways in which we can make our everyday working lives more sustainable today and in the future:

  • Produce less waste and utilise recycling opportunities
  • Switch off devices when they are not in use and unplug them
  • Switch off lights when leaving offices and toilets
  • Order environmentally friendly products and support companies that work sustainably
  • Use public transport, cycle or walk as often as possible

We have already implemented some of these measures well, but we can certainly do even better here and there.
Keep up the good work! Because even many small contributions can make a big difference.
