ZBT supports DEKRA: Quality in hydrogen refueling

DEKRA was one of the first testing organizations to receive accreditation for all essential services relating to hydrogen filling stations. As a permanent partner, the ZBT provides important services to ensure hydrogen quality with its Hy-Lab.

Impurities in hydrogen can damage the fuel cells in vehicles. For this reason, the hydrogen dispensed at filling stations in Germany must comply with the standards of DIN EN 17124. As a new service, DEKRA also offers testing and confirmation of the hydrogen quality that is dispensed at filling stations. There is a fixed supply contract with the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Center (ZBT) in Duisburg to test the hydrogen quality in the Hy-Lab laboratory and to approve filling stations.

The DEKRA experts can certify the conformity of the filling station system for filling station operators in accordance with the applicable safety standards and the quality of the hydrogen offered there in accordance with DIN EN 17124. In summer 2023, DEKRA was also authorized by the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) to independently test and certify hydrogen refuelling systems in accordance with ISO 19880-1c. This makes DEKRA one of the first recognized testing organizations to be authorized by the CEP for this task.
